Mahaweli Reach Observes Earth Hour
Mahaweli Reach Hotel observed Earth Hour on 23rd March 2013 , joining millions of people from across the globe in support of efforts to create awareness and celebrate their commitment to reduce environmental impact. At precisely 8:30 PM on Saturday 23rd March 2013, all non essential lights in the public areas were symbolically switched off, and diners enjoyed a candle lit dinner. Guests were also encouraged to switch off all non essential lights in their rooms during this hour. It was a moment shared by all transcending barriers of race, religion, culture, society, generation and geography in a global celebration of their commitment to protect the one thing that unites us all – the planet.
We are conscious that Earth Hour is not about saving an hour’s electricity, it’s much bigger than that. It’s about realising that the actions we take, from the energy we use, to the food we buy and water we drink, has an effect on the world. We all depend on our amazing planet and need to look after it – not just for an hour a year, but every day.
As a responsible corporate citizen we strive to follow practices which promote sustainability in all our activities including in respect of consumption of energy and water, recycling and disposal of waste materials, introduction of more environmentally friendly equipment and in the procurement process. We recognise that preservation of the environment in which we operate is of paramount importance for our team, the organisation, our community and our planet.
